We enjoyed the 2015 AGM between screenings offered by local Canberra film societies the Reel McCoy Film Group and the ANU Film Group, and got significant work done to set the Federation’s direction for the year ahead.
Guest Speaker
Our guest speaker was Andrew Pike — consultant author of the NFSA’s Lending Collection review, patron of member society Lithgow Film Society, a film society member for decades, and head organiser of the Canberra International Film Festival. His talk was a persuasive call for film societies to change, adapt and stay relevant.
Results of the 2015 AGM
- The constitution was amended so delegates can attend remotely.
- Three committee members retired — Bryan Putt, Megan Findlayson and Michael Lines-Kelly — replaced by Theresa Huxtable, David Hogan and Henry Fitzgerald.
- Following Michael Lines-Kelly’s retirement, the Federation stopped distributing its Infilm Bulletin; updates now go out by email instead.
- Member enrolment, treasurer functions and distributor liaison would be reviewed for ways to use technology to work more efficiently.
- Efforts would be made to improve the SEO of both the Federation’s website and member societies’ own websites.
- Roadshow requested exact member counts per society going forward, rather than a range — a process was put in place ahead of July 2016 renewals.
- The NFSA no longer requires film handling insurance to use its lending collection, but still holds societies financially responsible for loss or damage — so the Federation’s own insurance remains just as important.
